The HistoryMakers is proud to announce the 2nd Increasing African American Diversity in Archives: The HistoryMakers Fellowship, Mentoring, Training and Placement Institute, a year -long fellowship (Monday, June 4, 2012 through Saturday June 1, 2013) working in African American archives. This program is made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) in the amount of $800,000. The purpose of this fellowship program is to provide training for African American archivists and other archivists interested in working with African American archival collections. The year will include 3-month immersion training program at The HistoryMakers Chicago location (Monday, June 4, 2012 - Friday, August 24, 2012) and an on-site residency (Tuesday, September 4, 2012 - Saturday, June 1, 2013). educational/archival institution. This is a newly created position for

move to the next stage. Annual revenues are $1.5 million.

The Director of Development will report directly to the
Founder & Executive Director. The person hired must be able

for major gift prospects.
• Develop an effective moves management system to ensure timely
identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of all major
gift prospects.

interview series as well as smaller events.

The HistoryMakers seeks an experienced Betacam
SP videographer to videotape documentary style oral history interviews
for the Atlanta and Washington, D.C area. The HistoryMakers is a 501
(c)(3) not-for-profit, research and educational institution committed
to preserving on videotape, and making widely accessible, the untold
personal stories of both well known and unsung African Americans.
Through the media and a series of user-friendly products, services and
events, the HistoryMakers enlightens, entertains and educates the
public helping to refashion a more inclusive record of American history.
The Videographer will be responsible for:
• Videotaping a minimum of 200 interviews annually (each
interview is an average of 3 hours in length not including set up and
tear down)
• Videotaping an average of 2 interviews daily
• Labeling tapes appropriately
• Ensuring completion of ALL paperwork for each HistoryMaker in the
region and submitting required reports
• Working closely with an interviewer/oral historian to ensure ALL
interviews are conducted in accordance with the HistoryMakers guidelines
• Performing other responsibilities as assigned
• Reporting to the national headquarters in Chicago, Illinois
• The Preferred Qualifications include:
• A minimum of 2-4 years experience shooting on Betacam SP and working
with Betacam SP ENG equipment
• Proficiency with camera maintenance including cleaning heads and
troubleshooting
• Demonstrated experience with shooting ENG/documentary style video
• Proficiency in documentary style lighting using gobos, gel and chimera

Internships are available on a semester or January-term
basis and can be tailored to fit the skills and interests of the
student. Interns are guaranteed hands-on experience. Most interns are
given their own projects with specific deadlines. Interns are matched
with projects consistent with their interests and skill levels. Areas

Copy editing/transcript reviewing:
watch 2-4 hour interview and research and edit it for accuracy
consistent with The HistoryMakers standards.
Archival Assistant Intern should be trained in/working in library or
archives to assist in the processing of video collection as well as to
write and develop finding aids. This position requires knowledge of
archival bar code programs and FileMaker Pro database helpful.

This position is primarily responsible for identifying
prospects and securing grants from foundations, corporations and
government agencies. The position is also responsible for managing

The HistoryMakers seeks to have an experienced,
full-time STEM oral historian to conduct 3-4 hour videotaped interviews
of accomplished
African American scientists as part of a nationwide ScienceMakers NSF
STEM initiative. He
or she will work closely with a regional videographer to ensure all
interviews are done in a quality manner. He or she must be literate in
STEM fields and preferably have prior experience
in science journalism. The interviewer must be able to put the subject
at east. He or she
must be well-read in both scientific journals and current science
events and be capable of
working as part of a team. The interviewer must conduct each interview
according to the ScienceMakers’ standards, complete necessary
paperwork, and be willing to travel as deemed
necessary or appropriate. The interviewer will also be ethical with a
strong track record, hardworking, able to maintain confidentiality and
capable of representing the ScienceMakers
well while working in a demanding, multi-tasked environment. He or she
must live in Chicago
and work full-time out of The HistoryMakers' offices for the
next 2 1/2 hears.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
• Two or more years of previous producing/oral history interviewing
experience;
• Academic background in STEM or related discipline;
